No Attitude Showcase: Feb 2016

It seems like only yesterday when we started throwing warehouse parties in the middle of Shoreditch in 2010. Fast-forward five years and we’ve got more than a few record releases and a growing roster of new talent under our expanding waistline. It’s always been the No-Attitude intention to bring solid, straightforward dance music to all who honour that mutual feeling when sound meets physical movement and who are unafraid to wear a smile all the while.
We begin this new season by presenting our #25 release, Whisper, by Marco Colombino featuring vocals by Steven Jones.

Marco Colombino is a music lover. At the age of 16 Marco started playing his first dj sets at private parties proposing a “new deep house sound”.
Eventually he started to be associated with the new disco style of house music which was taking over Sardinia, the island in Italy where Marco comes from. However, after approximately a year he moved toward some different sounds as well as he started looking for an innovative mixing technique that was applicable to a global audience and much more “in fashion” on the popular Sardinian Coast named Costa Smeralda where artists such as Richie Hawtin, Sven Vath and Ricardo Villalobos (to name a few) brought their techno and futuristic sounds already. At this point, Marco was proposing a redefined tech-house sound.
Recently relocated to London and signed to no-attitude recordings for his first album and e few EPs, Marco Colombino will be soon one name to keep in mind for many electronic music lovers.

Whisper, a nine-track full-length release, is an amalgamation of various influences of his contemporaries from Giorgio Moroder and Daft Punk to Nick Höppner and MyMy as well as his desire to build a more refined and individualistic sound. Whisper surprises in its unlikeness to current tech and deep house releases and makes the grade with its immaculate production and conciseness.

Emotionally charged, the album is somewhat pop-y in tracks such as, “Believe” and “Firefly”, but Colombino remains faithful to his tech house background in, “To The Limit” and title track, “Whisper”. Breaking free from the barriers of the DJ label and delving into the realm of a musician, Colombino’s first album has a more universal feel to it; this is backed by the presence of Steven Jones, whose spoken-voice technique can be likened to that of Maxi Jazz of Faithless. Hypnotic and seductive, Jones’ creates a poignant intensity that will appeal to listeners of assorted tastes. Colombino has made an assertive decision not to conform to a specific genre, thus breaking loose from the boundaries that so often limit DJ’s to one particular audience.
